Partner and Head of the Corporate Department
As Head of Corporate, I oversee the work of the Company Commercial, Partnership and Employment departments.
I also have experience in Tax Planning and Trusts, which I use for the benefit of my business clients and their families.
Having acquired knowledge and legal expertise in Company and Partnership Law, Contract Law, Property Law and Construction over the course of a legal career spanning 34 years, I act as legal adviser to the boards of private companies across the transport, manufacturing, financial services, advertising and property and construction sectors.
Ahmed Hassan's areas of practice include business planning, entity formation, mergers, acquisitions and sales of businesses, employment law, contracts, transactional matters of all kinds, real estate transactions, homeowners associations, non-profit law and estate planning. He has authored several articles on employment issues and frequently lectures to business owners regarding various employment topics such as employees vs. independent contractors, sexual harassment in the workplace, overtime, meal and rest breaks, and hiring, disciplining and terminating employees and employment law updates.
I am part of an exceptionally skilled team who defend cases relating to serious fraud, in particular Carousel Fraud – MTIC Missing Trader Intra Community – VAT Fraud. Recent Cases I have been involved in: Operation Snowbank – Liverpool Crown Court July 2012 – Conspiracy to cheat HMRC (sales of platinum imported from EU) Operation Rust – Canterbury Crown Court – Jan 2012 Diversion fraud in excess of £50 million. A case involving a significant international dimension– Defendant acquitted following a 4 month trial.
I principally advise the owners of small to medium enterprises; directors and partners; and professionals on contentious matters normally in relation to company and business disputes; insolvency issues; partnership disputes; professional and regulatory issues; and engineering and product liability cases. As Head of Business Litigation, I am also responsible for the overall management of the team and the achievement of it’s business objectives, including most importantly the standard of work undertaken
As a solicitor in the business litigation department I deal with a variety of cases including of property litigation, debt litigation, contract disputes, intellectual property, construction law and partnership disputes. An interesting client I once represented was Vance Miller, who has appeared regularly in the Manchester Evening News. A sensitive case I dealt with was acting for two professional executors in the estate of a property developer from Manchester who was sadly murdered. The estate claimed the deceased had agreed with another that they develop a college building into apartments and penthouses.
My key role is to oversee the provision of quality legal services to all clients of the Employment Law Department. Our clients range from the chairman and directors of our corporate companies, through to the individual employee. A quality service is achieved by maintaining a close liaison with colleagues within the department, and focusing on the detail and strategy to achieve a pragmatic and satisfying solution for our clients. In a previous life, I was a linguist, specialising in French and Russian language and linguistics. I gained a first class honours degree before pursuing postgraduate study and research at Hertford College, Oxford.
